As a consultant, every engagement I have ever had involved creating some kind of change. Changes ranged from planning a new future to redesigning processes that weren't working well. So I know that it can feel like bending granite, but I also know from these experiences with hundreds of organizations that real change is possible. You just need to keep your focus on purpose, processes and the people. (Not always easy, but it is doable.)
I have over 30 stories to share with you of people who saw a need to change things for the better and who achieved just that. "Bending Granite: 30+ True Stories of Leading Change" is the book I have co-edited with colleagues and which is coming out later this spring.
The authentic stories are told in the first person so you can see into the hearts and minds of the authors. They share, not only what works, but what didn't work well, at least at first and what they learned.
If you need a shot of hope and encouragement and time-tested ideas for creating change wherever you are, I hope you will read some of the stories. They span a wide range of organizations--profit, non-profit, government, military.
I wish I had had these stories when I first began my leadership journey.
